The advent of new WLAN standards such as 802.11ac, and the 2nd wave of technology in particular, is pushing the amount of traffic aggregated inside those WLAN Access Points to more than 1 Gbps. To respond to this demand, Aquantia developed AQrate, a unique technology capable of increasing network speeds to 5 and 2.5 Gbps at lengths up to 100m on existing Cat 5e/Cat 6 cables. Aquantia subsequently co-founded the NBASE-T Alliance with Cisco and other major players to promote the Multi-Gigabit technology in the industry. It also played a key role is pushing the Multi-Gigabit technology through the standardization process within IEEE. In September 2016, IEEE officially approved IEEE® 802.3bzTM as a standard, a record timeframe of less than 2 years from proposal to approval.
Our AQrate product line is composed of single, dual and quad-port configurations, tuned towards applications ranging from WLAN APs, compact switches, client PCs, storage, security cameras, etc. for the single and dual-port devices, to Enterprise and Campus Ethernet switches for the quad-port versions. We are currently in full production of the entire line up of AQrate products, all manufactured in 28nm and all supporting the 5 Ethernet speeds, 100M, 1000BASE-T, 2.5GBASE-T, 5GBASE-T and 10GBASE-T.
Aquantia’s AQrate product line enables Enterprise Networking to scale to 5 and 2.5GbE on existing Cat5e and Cat6 cabling infrastructure.

“ The market for 5 and 2.5GBASE-T is expected to expand rapidly, as evidenced by industry-leading system OEMs developing enterprise-class WiFi APs and switching products in support of these emerging speeds. Dell’oro projects that the industry’s shipment of 5/2.5GBASE-T will reach 57 million ports in 2020.”
The development of the AQrate product line, based on the novel 5G/2.5G protocol invented by Aquantia, started in 2012 and led to the sampling of our first product in November 2013. This innovative product line was quickly adopted by Cisco and other major switching and WLAN AP OEMs in the ensuing months. As of Q2 2017, we are the only supplier in production with this Multi-Gig technology, which is compliant with the IEEE 802.3bz-standard.
Your users are ready for multigigabit wireless. The real question is, Is your wired network ready?
“By developing low-power, low-cost, and high-performance integrated circuits, Aquantia has the potential to enable exponentially faster wired and wireless networks for their customers.” said Rob Salvagno, vice president of Corporate Development at Cisco and head of Cisco Investments.
